Moodle: Mannually Link Course Enrollments

Overview

Linking courses to a metacourse (or single course section) in Moodle allows for automatic syncing of enrollments. Metacourses are automatically created for professors who teach multiple sections of the same course, but metacourses can also be requested should one be needed for sections with different course numbers (e.g., a 200 and a 300 level course).

A metacourse is not required to link enrollments between courses; read the instructions below to learn how to manually link course enrollments from one course to another.

Linking Enrollments

At the top of your Moodle page,

  1. Select the Participants tab.
  2. Click on the Enrolled users drop-down menu and choose the Enrollment Methods option.
  3. Click on the Add method drop-down menu and select Course meta link.
  4. Start typing in the course shortname in the search box (ex. engl200-01).
  5. Select the desired course from the list then click on the Add method button.

Students are automatically added to groups named after the course shortname.
