Troubleshooting: Windows computers being very very sluggish

Issue

Since mid-November, an increasing number of Windows computers have become impossibly sluggish. This appears to be related to missing Windows Updates.

Solution

  1. If you are off campus, connect to the GlobalProtect VPN (link opens in a new window)
  2. From the Windows menu, open Settings
  3. In the Systems section, click on Windows Update
  4. Click the downward arrow next to Check for Updates and select Check online for updates from Microsoft Update
  5. If your computer says no updates are available, check again. Several computers have needed to check multiple times before the update reveals itself.
  6. You may need to check for and run updates multiple times before new updates stop appearing in your list.
