Overview
Occasionally, a student may forget to submit their quiz attempt in Moodle before the deadline. This results in a “Never Submitted” status on the Quiz Results page. In Moodle 4.2, an instructor can now submit a student’s quiz attempt for them automatically without reopening the entire quiz. Follow the steps below to automatically submit a student’s last attempt.
Quiz Settings
Make sure the following options are set up in the quiz in order to reopen a quiz attempt.
ℹ️ Note: these settings can be updated even after students have completed the quiz
- Within the desired quiz page, go to the Settings tab
- Under the Timing section, click the Show more… link
- Set the When time expires option to There is a grace period when open attempts can be submitted, but no more questions answered
- The grace period can be set to any amount of time
- Click the Save and display button at the bottom of the page
Quiz Results Page
Here, the instructor can reopen quiz attempts for specific students.
- Go to the Results tab of the quiz the find the student with the 'Never submitted' status
- Click the Reopen button in the same row as student’s attempt
- A pop-up will appear at the top of the screen saying “The attempt will be immediately submitted for grading”
- Click the Reopen button again in the pop-up window
And that’s it. The student’s last attempt has now been submitted.
