SPSS: Installation & Set-up

Faculty and Staff

Look for SPSS in either K1000 (Windows) or Jamf Self Service (Mac)

If you already have SPSS installed and don't care to have the latest version, look for SPSS 28 License Activation (exp 7/31/2025).

If you do not have SPSS installed, look for SPSS 29.0.2 Full Installer, which includes the license key for the active year.

If you have SPSS 29 installed but not licensed, look for SPSS 29 License Activation (exp 7/31/2025).

Students

Creating an IBM Account

  1. Go to IBM's website (link opens in new tab)
  2. Create an IBM account under the profile icon in the top right.
    1. Use your Carleton email account to register.
  3. IBM will send you an email, which will require you to copy a code they send you to confirm your email address. 
  4. After verifying your account, go to IBM's customer login (link opens in new tab) and click "Customer Sign in".
  5. You'll be asked to complete a 'Self-Nomination' form. 
    1. You will need a Site Number
    2. For the justification, explain that you need to download SPSS.
    3. Click “Submit” when you are done.

You will have to wait until you're given approval to do the next steps. This process may take up to one business day to be completed. You'll get an email shortly after being given access.

Installing SPSS

SPSS is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.

  1. Once you are given approval, go to IBM's customer login (link opens in new tab) and click "Customer Sign in".
  2. In the "Software download & media access" section click "download software."
  3. Click “IBM SPSS Statistics Premium Campus Edition” and then select your operating system and language.
  4. On the next page, click "Download". For the download method select "HTTP" and make sure to agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Run the downloaded file to install SPSS and follow the prompts if any. 
  6. The first time you run SPSS Statistics, you'll be asked for what type of license you have. Select "Authorized User License".
