The St. Olaf Gaming & Streaming Lab

Full Details on the space are available on the Gaming, Streaming, and Content Creation Library Guide

What is available in the lab?

The Gaming Lab is currently located in Rolvaag Memorial Library in RML 449A. In the space, we have:

  • Yeti Mic for recording audio
  • Omen HP 40L Windows 11 Gaming Computer
  • RGB/Configuration keyboard compatible with Logitech G Hub
  • Logitech Litra Glow LED Streaming Light
  • Loupedeck Stream Deck (available in Library Equipment checkout)
  • HTC Vive VR Setup
  • USB wired controller for controller users!
  • A chair for support and working on long projects!
  • An ergonomic standing desk
  • Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Suite software for editing content (ie. Premiere)

Because there is a lot of humidity in this room, we have a dehumidifiers in the space:

  • Equipment cabinet - this cabinet is to hold any equipment for the space. This cabinet has it's own environmental control to protect equipment for moisture. Make sure that all equipment is placed back in the cabinet when you are finished using the room.
  • Black & Decker dehumidifier - there may be a white dehumidifier that will occasionally run in the space. This can be shut off if the noise picks up on recordings, but please make sure to turn it back on. This will also prevent any moisture from getting into the computer components on the Omen desktop.

For assistance with setting up or using the equipment, contact the DiSCO

The computer in the room is PC/Windows only. For information on MacOS or mobile gaming options, contact the DiSCO.

Video game consoles (PS4, Nintendo mini, etc.) will be made available for checkout through the Circulation Desk. Any games in disc format can also be checked out through the library.

**Please Note: If using the Game Lab, please leave the space the way as you found it. This room follows the food and drink policies of the library. If there are any damages to the space, this could result in the room being taken offline until repairs are complete.**

How do I access the space?

The key for the space can be checked out at the Rolvaag Memorial Library Circulation Desk - the space can be use for 4 hours at a time. If additional time is needed, check with the Circulation Desk for more time.

Can I install games on the computer?

Yes! Submit a Software Request form and mention in the description that is it for the Game Room. Make sure to read all of the software guidelines in the library guide before submitting the request.

  • In most cases, we will install any games on the computer (especially if they are from an official game client - Steam, Origin, Paradox, Battle.net, Riot Games, G2A, etc). If it is not coming from a cloud service (ie. installing from a website), this it is decided on a case by case basis.
  • We will setup an appointment so someone can add the admin password for the computer
  • We will not install emulators, mods, or any bootleg software on this computer for any reason
  • Any games not used for 1 academic semester may be removed if they are taking up a lot of storage space (fall-interim, or spring-summer)

Do I have to be in a class in order to use this space?

It is not required to be in a course to use the space! While the space itself does have equipment to support audio-recording and film projects, the Game Lab can also be used to take a break and play some games.
