Shared Course Folders

Options for sharing course materials

  • Moodle (information and help)
  • Google Drive
    • Allows easy sharing of files and folders as well as collaborative writing, editing, commenting, and the like
    • See Google's instructions on using Google Drive
    • You can request an automated Google Group for your class (see below), and share Google Drive folders with that group.
  • Dropbox Group
  • Networked Course Folder
    • Not easily available from off campus, this option requires mounting the courses.ads.carleton.edu network drive. This option should only be used when Moodle, Google Drive, or Dropbox can't accommodate your needs.
    • See below for instructions on requesting this option and for mounting the network drive

More Information About Course Folders

Membership Roles in Networked Course Folders

There ar three roles in Course Folders, each of which is determined by membership roles in the corresponding Moodle course:

  • Faculty/Owner access (Moodle roles: Course Editor, Teacher)
  • Grader access (Moodle Role: Grader)
  • Participant access (Moodle roles: Student, Student TA,, TA Teacher, Non-editing Teacher)

How information syncs between Workday, Moodle, and your Course Folder

  1. Enrollment data starts in Workday
  2. Enrollment data syncs to Moodle overnight each night, and default roles are assigned in Moodle (editing teacher, student)
  3. Additional people/roles can be added manually in Moodle by the instructor
  4. Membership and role information moves into Grouper
  5. Grouper creates the groups that become automated Google groups, course folders, etc.

New enrollments from Workday move to Moodle overnight each night. Manual participant or role adjustments in Moodle can take approximately 30 minutes to sync to course folders.
