Setting up and Updating Your Voicemail Greeting
To get into the voicemail settings:
- ON CAMPUS - Press the Message button (the envelope button)
- OFF CAMPUS - Dial your phone number and when you begin to hear your voicemail message Press *
- Enter your voicemail password (initially this is your phone extension). The system will make you change your password from your phone extension for security reasons. Follow the prompts if it is asking you to change your password.
- Press 0 (zero) to go to voicemail settings
- Listen to the prompts. Choose Unavailable Message for your normal everyday message OR Temporary Message for a short term message (I.e. vacation).
- Unavailable Message - the main message that plays if the phone rings and you don't answer, or if you are on another call
- Busy Message - the message that plays when you forward calls to voicemail using Do Not Disturb (This is different from the Temporary Message which is used for vacation type absences)
- Temporary Message - this message should be used if you plan to be out of the office or on vacation. Once you record a temporary message, it will automatically be the default greeting for your voicemail.
- After recording a prompt Press * to return to the main menu
** If you have forgot your password submit a Telecom Issue ticket to request a password reset.
To delete the default voicemail greeting, record a new Unavailable Message to overwrite the default voicemail greeting.
Deactivating a Temporary Greeting
To get into the voicemail settings:
- ON CAMPUS - Press the Message button (the envelope button)
- OFF CAMPUS - Dial your phone number and when you begin to hear your voicemail message Press *
- Enter your voicemail password
- Press 0 (zero) to access the voicemail settings
- Press 4 to go to the temporary greeting options
- It will say press 1 to record your temporary greeting or Press 2 to erase your temporary greeting
Voicemail Messages
Voicemail messages will go to your email, and are not being stored by the phone or softphone.
Sample Voicemail Email
The subject line will read “New voicemail on your Carleton number” and there will be a sound file (.wav format) attached to the message.
The email body will contain the name of the caller (if available), the phone number they called from, the length of the message, and the date and time when it was left.
Click on the .wav file you can listen to the message and also be able to download and save the file.
