If necessary, you can completely hide the Moodle gradebook from the student view. You may wish to do this while you are working on your gradebook, and want to avoid students inadvertently seeing grades that do not correctly reflect the current status of their grade. To do this, you will need to access the course site settings by clicking on the settings wheel in the upper right corner of the main course page.
Click on the Settings tab on the course page.
On the course settings page, scroll down to the Appearance section and expand it by clicking on the arrow next to the title.
Then select the desired visibility from the drop-down next to Show gradebook to students.
Switching this setting to No will remove the Grades menu option for that course in your students' view.
Individual grades for Assignments and Quizzes will still be visible from the activities, according to their visibility settings. When temporarily turning of the gradebook visibility, remember to turn it back on to avoid student inquiries about how to access their grades.
