What is the difference between hiding and restricting activities?
Hiding activities is a quick way to manually control content that course participants see.
Restrict Access is more of an automated way to control access - set a date, designate a group, or use other filters to control the visibility of the content.
It is important to keep in mind:
- Changing the visibility of an activity may result in any corresponding grades to be inaccessible to students. Graded activities will need to be visible for students to see their grades.
- Grade activities that are hidden may impact the total grade for the course.
Adding a Restriction
To place a restriction on an activity - begin by adding a Moodle activity.
Click on Add an activity or resource.
Select an activity for your course (for example: Assignment).
Name the assignment, enter a description, and other relevant details.
To add the restriction, scroll down and find the Restrict access section.
Click Add restriction.
There are multiple options for type of restrictions to add to the activity. For example, if the activity is created in a Metacourse and should only be available to one section, click on Group.
In the Group field, you can select the sections of the Metacourse - or create your own groups. Any groups available in the Moodle course will appear in this option.
Click on Save and return to course. To add multiple restriction, click on Add restriction... again and repeat the process.
To hide an activity, turning editing on for the course page.
Click on Edit and Hide.
The course page will update to show a 'Hidden from students' note.
In order to remove the statue, click on Edit and Show.
