Moodle: Downloading Course Content

Course content includes access to course and activity pages (similar to a website archive). This article serves as a guide for instructors and students to download their work from Moodle.

For Instructors

Everything from the course banner, assignment descriptions to file attachments can be saved from Moodle. All saved content will be downloaded as a .zip file and will exclude any files larger than 50 megabytes. Follow the instructions below to save course content:

  1. Click to open the desired course from the Dashboard.
  2. From the course navigation tabs, select the More tab then choose the Download course content button.
  3. In the pop-up window, click the Download button.

Once completed, the zipped file will be saved to your personal device.

Follow the instructions below to allow students to download course content:

  1. Click to open the desired course from the Dashboard.
  2. From the course navigation tabs, select the Settings tab.
  3. Under the General section, look for the option Enable download course content.
  4. Click on the drop down menu and select the Yes option.
  5. Scroll down to the page and click the Save and display button.

 

For Students

Students can download course content depending on their level of access to the course.

Courses you still have access to

Courses you lost access to

Specific Activities: If you would like to access content from a course that you still have access to, follow the instructions below. 

  1. Click to open the desired course from the Dashboard.
  2. Navigate and click to open the desired activity.
  3. From there, you should be able to see your submission. 
    • For file submissions: click on the file to download it. 
    • For text submissions: copy the text and paste it into another word processor (e.g. Google Docs or Word).

Specific Activities: Please contact the professor of that course to either

  • Ask them to retrieve the assignment submission for you,
  • Ask them to give permission to Academic Technology so they may retrieve it for you,
    OR
  • Unhide the Moodle course briefly so you can download your submission.
    (This will make the course visible to all students in that course.)

General course content: By default, students CANNOT download general course content. If you would like access to this feature, contact your instructor to enable it. If this feature is enabled by the instructor, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click to open the desired course from the Dashboard.
  2. From the course navigation tabs, select the More tab then choose the Download course content button.
  3. In the pop-up window, click the Download button.

Once completed, the zipped file will be saved to your personal device.

Assignments Descriptions: If you would like to access content added by the instructor of a course that is hidden from you, contact the instructor to obtain that information. They are the only one who can give you access to that content.
