You can set up a Google Meet video conference's access to behave similar to Zoom's Waiting Room feature. This article goes over how to set this up prior to the meeting or in the meeting as well as how to join meetings with a waiting room.
Enabling a waiting room when creating a meeting
-
Create a new calendar event, and select add Google Meet video conferencing
-
Click on the Settings icon to open the meet settings.
-
Under Meeting Access, select Restricted and click Save.
-
Add any guests to the meeting that you'd like to be able to join. With the meeting set to Restricted, everyone will still need to request to join when they try to enter the meeting.
-
If you want someone to join without being added to the calendar event, you can simply copy the meeting URL and share that with your guests.
Enabling Waiting Room function in the Meeting
- Click on the Host Controls icon in the lower right corner of the Meet window.
- Selected Restricted.
