Printing for Faculty & Staff

Many Print Options

Faculty & Staff have several ways to print:

Direct to MFC: AKA Department MFC. Print to the nearest (Toshiba) MFC in your department or area and the print job will be waiting for you. Note that MFC means multi-function copier: printer + scanner + copier. This option is limited to St. Olaf computers.

Department Laser printers: if your department has an HP, Epson, or similar printer, this is an option. This option is limited to St. Olaf computers.

stoPrint: print to stoPrint and release your job to print at any MFC on campus. Typically used by Fac/Staff who use their personal devices. Also an option to print sensitive documents because it requires you to release (and watch) the job at the printer.

What is the difference between Direct to MFC & stoPrint?

When you print to to the nearest (Toshiba) MFC in your department or area, it’ll print to that device only. When you walk to the machine, your printed job will be waiting for you.

When you print to stoPrint, you can choose any MFC on campus. You will need to scan your Ole Card and release the job to print.

How do I install a printer?

For department MFC, laser printers or stoPrint-personal, please see the “Related Articles” section on the right (or below). Choose the appropriate guide based on your operating system and printer.

stoPrint is already installed on all St. Olaf campus machines. If you need to install stoPrint on your personal device (so that you can charge print jobs to your department), please follow the specific guides in the "Related Articles" section, based on your operating system.

How do I print in color?

You have several options:

  1. Select stoPrint-color, then release the print job at a color MFC, located at:
    1. First floor of Tomson Hall (by the vending machines)
    2. Rolvaag Library 4th Floor – DiSCO area

  2. Some departments have color HP laser printers

  3. Contact the Print Center

How much do print jobs cost?

Printing costs $0.06 per single-sided page, and $0.04 per side of a duplexed (two-sided) page. Color printing is $0.45 per page. For example:

  • A one page single-sided black and white print job will cost $0.06.
  • A four page single-sided black and white print job will cost $0.24 (4 x $0.06)
  • A four page duplexed black and white print job (2 sheets of paper, 4 imaged sides) will cost $0.16 (4 x $0.04)
  • A five page duplexed black and white print job (3 sheets of paper, 5 imaged sides) will cost $0.22 (4 x $0.04 + 1 x $0.06); the last page in this print job is considered a single-sided page and therefore costs $0.06.
  • A one page single-sided color print job will cost $0.45.
  • A two page duplexed color print job will cost $0.90.
