Can I access library e-resources (e.g. online articles or books) when I’m not on campus?
Yes; any library e-resources that you can access on campus can also be accessed off campus. However, due to licensing restrictions by database providers, this service is only available to current students, faculty, and staff. Campus guests (including those with a current Community Card) may access library e-resources only when on campus.
I’m a current St. Olaf student, faculty, or staff member; how can I access library resources when I’m not on campus?
There are two methods for accessing library resources from off campus:
- If you are using the campus VPN on your computer you will be able to access library resources just as though you were on campus. Using the campus VPN to access campus resources is the preferred method for security reasons. To learn more about how to install the campus VPN, please see here.
- Without the campus VPN, you may encounter resources which require that you log in to the library’s Proxy Server using your St. Olaf username/password. You will be automatically prompted to log in when attempting to access those resources when you are not on campus. Alternatively, you can opt to log in to your library account for remote access before you begin searching for library resources; for more information, please see here. Note: the login will last a limited time in the same browser window; if you open a new window or different browser, you will have to log in again to continue accessing library resources.
How can I ensure that links to the library’s resources will work both on and off campus?
You can automate the authentication and access process by adding the library’s EZProxy prefix (https://login.ezproxy.stolaf.edu/login?&url=) to library resource links before sharing or saving for use off campus. For more information, please see here.
