A couple faculty members reported that their Panopto-Created videos are getting stuck for students in a repeatable fashion by various students on various devices. The issue seems to impact users who are recording using SLIDES and who talk for a while over a STATIC slide/image.
Suggest 2 possible Work-arounds:
1) Recommend users use the Panopto Capture (web based recorder), rather than Panopto for Mac or PC software-based tool.
This can be accessed while in Panopto > Create > Panopto Capture (record in browser)

2) Suggest that users record in another tool (a private Zoom meeting while screen recording or Google Vids/Meet, etc. and then upload to Panopto.).
Below is Panopto's report on Jan. 27, 2026
---------------
Our team investigated this and found that users may experience poor recording quality when capturing screens which are completely still (i.e. without any changing content, such as PowerPoint or Keynote presentations). This is due to the behavior of Apple's ScreenCaptureKit handling an idle status. At this time, our team is unable to repair the screen recording. To mitigate the issue there are two options:
Option 1: For Mac users, if you intend to capture a screen, Panopto Support strongly recommends using the web-based Capture recorder. The Capture recorder works best with Chrome or Firefox.
Option 2: If you would prefer to use the Panopto for Mac desktop application, ensure there is continuous motion visible on the screen(s) you're capturing.Next Steps & Resolution
The Panopto Engineering team is actively working on a fix to address this issue. While an exact ETA cannot yet be provided, Panopto Support will update the following Service Notification Post no later than 2026-01-30. All future communications regarding the resolution status will communicated within the post linked below.
