MacOS Notifications Management
You can manage notifications either by application or you can schedule Focus time.
-
On your Mac laptop, choose the Apple menu, then System Settings, then Notifications. Click on the name of an application you want to adjust notifications (e.g., Slack, Google Calendar, Messages).
-
At the top of the window that opens, toggle the button off (gray, button to the left). This turns off all notifications from this application. If you want to allow certain types of notifications from this application, toggle it back on and customize accordingly.
Note: You cannot turn off notifications for Self Service because it is part of how campus-wide software is managed.
One useful strategy is to “park” notifications in the notification center. You can check them up to seven days later, but they don’t automatically pop up while presenting. You can get to the notification center by clicking the date and time (or clock) in the menu bar. Read more about Notifications at Apple’s website.
OR
Enable the Focus schedule option: choose the Apple menu, System Settings, Focus. Choose Work.
You can allow certain people or applications to override the Focus time. Otherwise, set your Focus schedule for as long as you need. Using the Focus Filters, you can specify which applications need to respond to your Work Focus.
Windows Notifications Management
Windows 11 has the Focus feature that allows you to schedule a pause in notifications.
- Select notification center in the task bar.
- Choose an amount of time for your focus session.
- Select Focus to start your session.
