Restoring Videos from the Panopto Archive

Carleton implemented an automated archiving process in Panopto to help manage the ever-increasing cost of digital storage:  after 3 years of not being viewed, videos in a user's Panopto folders will automatically move into Panopto's Archive.   This preserves them, but it makes them unviewable until they've been restored from the archive. Unfortunately, the restoration process takes a few days once it is initiated.

1) To preemptively skirt the auto-archive, log into your Panopto account and click play on each video once every couple years.

2) To restore videos that have been archived, log into your Panopto account, open each folder, and look for a notice that says "This folder contains # archived videos. Show archived videos."  Click on "Show Archived Videos."

You'll then see any videos that have been archived.  Click on Restore from Archive for each video . . . and then click OK.=

At this point, Panopto will work it's slow-moving magic and those videos will appear in your folder as they had before.  Links and embedded videos (on course pages or websites) will also become functional again.
