Wireless Networks (WiFi) at St. Olaf

St. Olaf operates two wireless networks: eduroam and St. Olaf Guest:

• eduroam is a secure, authenticated wireless network that works on campus and allows seamless roaming to other higher education and research institutions. St. Olaf users are strongly encouraged to use the eduroam wireless network. This wireless network is secured, encrypted and provides access to the Internet and all St. Olaf computing resources i.e. printing. 
• If you are a guest of the college coming from other eduroam participating institutions, your computer should automatically connect to the ‘eduroam’ wireless network. If prompted, use your home institution’s credentials to connect to eduroam. Please make sure you configure and test your connection at your home institution before visiting.
• St. Olaf Guest wireless network is for use by guests and visitors of the college. It can also be used by some devices (e.g. game consoles) that are unable to connect to the eduroam wireless network.

eduroam - Profiles

St. Olaf computers are set up to automatically connect to eduroam. 
Before connecting eduroam to your personal devices, clear your old eduroam wireless profile if you are new to St. Olaf.

Why You Need a New Profile

• Unique Credentials: Your username and password belong to your specific school.
• Security Rules: Every campus manages its own network certificates and security settings.
• Connection Errors: Old profiles often block new ones from working correctly and can cause login errors.

Steps to Remove an eduroam Profile and Connect Your Device to eduroam

Windows - personal device

To remove the eduroam profile from a Windows computer:

1. Using Windows Settings
2. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I 
3. Select Network & Internet from the menu.
4. Click on Wi-Fi on the right or left panel.
5. Choose Manage known networks.
6. Locate eduroam in the list of networks.
7. Click the Forget button next to it. 

Windows - personal device

Steps to install eduroam on a personal Windows device:

1. Connect to the St. Olaf Guest WiFi
2. Then download and run the appropriate Windows installer (see Attachments section on the right or below, depending on your browser). When asked for your username, please enter your full St. Olaf email address (username@stolaf.edu).

MacOS - personal device

To remove an eduroam profile from a Mac:

Delete the Configuration Profile

1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions)

2. Click Privacy & Security (or General, depending on your macOS version)

3. Scroll down and click Profiles

4. Select the eduroam profile

5. Click the minus (–) button or Remove, then enter your Mac login password to confirm 

Forget the Wi-Fi Network

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in your top menu bar
2. Select Wi-Fi Settings (or Network Settings)
3. Scroll down and find eduroam in your known networks list
4. Click the three dots or details button next to eduroam and select Forget This Network or Remove From List 

Clear Keychain Credentials if Applicable

1. Open Spotlight Search by pressing Cmd + Space, type Keychain Access, and open the app

2. Select login on the top left and All Items on the bottom left

3. Search for eduroam in the search bar

4. Right-click any matching certificates, passwords, or network entries and select Delete 

MacOS - personal device

Steps to install eduroam on a personal MacOS device:

1. Download and run the MacOS installer (see Attachments section on the right or below, depending on your browser). 
2. When asked for your username, please enter your full St. Olaf email address (username@stolaf.edu).

iOS

To remove eduroam profile from and IOS device:

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Tap General.

3. Tap VPN & Device Management (older iOS versions may just say Profile).

4. Find and tap the eduroam configuration profile.

5. Tap Remove Profile (or Delete Profile).

6. Type your device passcode and confirm.

Steps to Clear the Wi-Fi Network

1. Go back to the main Settings menu and tap Wi-Fi.

2. Find eduroam in your list of networks.

3. Tap the small "i" icon next to eduroam.

4. Tap Forget This Network and confirm. 
    

Steps to install eduroam on an iOS device: 

1. Make sure you are using Safari
2. Download and run the iOS installer (see Attachments section on the right or below, depending on your browser). 
3. When asked for your username, please enter your full St. Olaf email address (username@stolaf.edu).

Android 11+

To remove a profile from Android 11+

Forget the Wi-Fi Network

1. Open Settings on your phone.

2. Tap Network & Internet (or Connections / Wi-Fi depending on your device).

3. Select Wi-Fi or Internet.

4. Find eduroam in your list of networks.

5. Tap the gear/settings icon next to eduroam, or long-press the network name.

6. Tap Forget or Remove.

Delete the Security Certificate

1. Go back to the main Settings menu.

2. Search for Credentials using the search bar, or navigate to Security & privacy > More security settings > Encryption & credentials.

3. Tap User credentials.

4. Look for any saved certificates related to eduroam or your institution.

5. Tap the certificate and select Remove or Delete.
    

Steps to install eduroam on Android 11+: 

1. Install the geteduroam app from the Google Play store or click here.
   
2. Open the geteduroam app
3. Search for and find our institution, St. Olaf College (it might take a couple minutes....wait for it!):
   
    
4. Sign into eduroam using your email address i.e. <username>@stolaf.edu and your St. Olaf password. 
5. You are connected! Use eduroam for secure internet and connection to resources like stoprint-personal. 
   

Linux

How to remove eduroam from a Linux device:

Using the Command Line

1. Open your terminal app.

2. Type nmcli c delete id eduroam and press Enter.

3. If you used the geteduroam tool, the profile might be named eduroam (from geteduroam). Delete it with nmcli c delete id "eduroam (from geteduroam)". 

Using the Graphical Interface

1. Open your system Settings or click the network icon in your top/bottom panel.
2. Go to Network or Network Connections.
3. Find eduroam in the list of known Wi-Fi networks.
4. Click Delete or the minus (-) button to forget the network.

To connect to eduroam on your personal Linux device:

Download and run the appropriate installer (see Attachments section on the right or below, depending on your browser). When asked for your username, please enter your full St. Olaf email address (username@stolaf.edu).

Chromebook

How to remove eduroam from chromebook

Forget the Wi-Fi Network in ChromeOS

1. Click the time area at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

2. Select the Settings gear icon.

3. Click on Network in the left menu, then select Wi-Fi.

4. Click on Known networks.

5. Find eduroam, click the three dots icon next to it, and select Forget. 

Clear Associated Certificates (If Needed)

1. Open the Chrome browser on your Chromebook.

2. Type chrome://settings/certificates in the address bar and press Enter.

3. Look under the Your Certificates or Authorities tabs for any institutional or eduroam-related entries.

4. Click the menu/dots next to the certificate entry and select Delete or Remove. 
    

Steps to install eduroam on a Chromebook: 

1. Open the Chrome browser.
2. Visit cat.eduroam.org and download the configuration file (the website will detect your OS). 
3. Copy this URL address: chrome://network#general 
4. Open a new Chrome tab and paste the address from step 3.
5. Under the “Import ONC file” section, tap “Choose File”.
6. Navigate to the eduroam configuration file downloaded in step 2 and click Open. You will not notice anything; settings have been made silently.
7. Select eduroam from the list of wireless networks.
8. In the pop-up dialog box to "Join Wi-Fi network", most of the settings will auto-populate. In the Identify field, enter your St. Olaf email address. All other settings should look like the following:
