Eduroam for Linux: Getting connected

The ITS Helpdesk can provide some limited help for Linux users. Since every version of Linux is so different, we can't maintain complete instructions for every version, so what's provided here is a general template to follow.

Automatic Configuration (Requires NetworkManager and Python)

  1. While connected to CarletonGuests, navigate to cat.eduroam.org (link opens in a new tab) and click the blue button that says Click here to download your eduroamĀ® installer
  2. Enter Carleton in the search bar to find Carleton College's installer
  3. Download the Linux installer - if it does not appear due to your browser settings, click Choose another installer to download and select the Linux installer - save it to a location of your choice and open a terminal window in that folder.
  4. From the terminal, run the python script downloaded via python eduroam-linux-Carleton_College-Carleton_students,_faculty,_staff.py and when prompted, enter your full Carleton email address and your regular Carleton password when prompted - this will configure eduroam in NetworkManager.
  5. Right-click Network Manager, click Edit Connections..., click eduroam, click the gear to edit the connection, and under the Wi-Fi tab, change the Device field to the one that has a MAC address, and set Cloned Mac Address to Permanent.
