Mailing Addresses
Mailing Addresses
Mailing Address
(a “
Type”
of address)
:
Mailing Addresses are ranked higher than addresses with other types, such as Business Address or Secondary Address.
Address
Priority:
Every address in Slate is assigned a
Priority. Priority
can be set to High, Normal, Low or Inactive.
Inactive addresses are not included in the address ranking process.
Addresses added to Slate by an online process (e.g an alum updating their address through an online form) are automatically assigned a High priority.
Seasonal
or
Temporary
addresses: Seasonal and Temporary addresses include an
Effective Date
and an
Expiration Date
that indicate when that address should be assigned a higher rank than other Mailing Addresses.
In Slate, there is an indicator on a
Mailing Address
to identify a
Seasonal
or
Temporary
address, whereas in Advance, this is identified by an address type.
A
Seasonal
address is annually recurring and its
Effective Date
and
Expiration Date
have month and day values, but do not contain a year value. An example of a seasonal address use would be Natalie, who lives in MN, but has a condo in TX where she spends the winter months (November - March) every year. This is a recurring, annual instance, where her preferred mailing address is dependent on the time of year.
A
Temporary
address is used for one-time changes, and its
Effective Date
and
Expiration Date
include month, day and year values. An example of a temporary address use would be Bill, who lives in MN, but will be on a work assignment in NY from June - August 2026 and wants to receive in his mail at a NY address during that time.
Address
Rank Overall:
Slate gives each address in a person’s record a ranking in order to determine which address should be used when a mailing list is created.
The address with a Rank Overall of 1 will be the preferred address for that person
. An address’
Rank Overall
is determined by a few factors evaluated in the following order:
The address’
Type:
Mailing Addresses are ranked higher than addresses with other types, such as Business Address or Secondary Address.
The address’
Priority
(
High, Normal, Low or Inactive
)
Any
Seasonal
or
Temporary
dates included on the address
The date/time the address was most recently updated
