Installing the Sangoma Softphone Desktop Client

Summary

Installing the Sangoma Softphone Desktop Client

Body

A softphone functions as a phone, but operates on your computer without a physical or “hard” deskphone.

ITS is in the process of transitioning Carleton's softphone service from Zulu Softphone to Sangoma Softphone. It is expected that this transition will happen in late 2025-early 2026. This guide will assist in transitioning from the Zulu softphone to the Sangoma softphone.

You can choose to use the Web OR Desktop Sangoma Softphone

The two clients work and look the same. If you choose to use the Desktop client you will need to download the program. The instructions for downloading and installing the Desktop client is below.

Both clients will require you to be logged into the VPN if working off campus.

Installing the Sangoma Softphone Desktop Client

Download the Sangoma desktop client from https://github.com/sangoma/desktop-softphone/releases/tag/v4.2.0. Choose either the Mac Sangoma-Phone-4.2.0-mac-x64.dmg or  Windows Sangoma-Phone-4.2.0-win-x64.exe version.

Install the application as normal.

When you first open the Sangoma application, enter carlpbx.its.carleton.edu:6443 in the Host box and enter your Carleton username and password.
