Overview
The Buttons course format in Moodle creates a navigation menu using clickable buttons, allowing users to access course sections one at a time. This format also includes options to group sections (e.g. by module or time period), customize button colors, shapes and numbering styles.
Configuring the Buttons Format
Below includes instructions for changing the course format, creating Buttons for sections.
- Click on the Settings tab on the top bar of your course page.
- Scroll to and expand the Course format section.
- Open the drop-down menu next to the Format label, and select the Buttons format.
- Adjust the following format options:
- Button color: Customize the font and button color using a HEX code. Optional settings here include selected button color, font color and font color for the selected button.
- Numbering method: Choose between numbers, letters, or roman numerals.
- Button shape: Select from square or rounded styles.
- Show the title of each section: Select between Yes or No.

- Grouping: Organize sections into groups with custom titles. Additionally, select the number of sections per group.
- Click one of the Save buttons at the bottom of the page.
