Overview

By default, the course overview block shows current courses (in progress) a user is enrolled in. Anyone in Moodle can customize the course overview block to suit their preferences.

How to Customize the Course Overview Layout

The filtered settings from your last access of this block will save when you re-enter the Moodle Dashboard.

  1. Right under the Course overview title, select an option within the following dropdowns
    1. Category: an option to sort by All, In progress, Future, Past, Starred, Term, and Removed from view
    2. Sort by: an option to sort courses by course name, short name, and last accessed
    3. View: an option to display the course by Card, List, and Summary
  2. Use the search bar to find a specific course in mind no matter the category

See below to learn more about course category types.

In Progress courses

For courses to appear in the 'In Progress' section, they must be not yet completed and the current date must be after the course start date. The current date must be before the end date, or there is no end date.

Future courses

For courses to appear in the 'Future' section, the student must be enrolled in them even though the course start date is in the future.

Past courses

For courses to appear in the 'Past' section, the course end date must be in the past or the course must be completed. If course completion is turned on in the course settings, the course will not appear in the 'Past' section until course completion conditions are met even if the course end date is in the past.

Starred courses

Starred courses act as bookmarks where courses that are starred will appear in the Starred category no matter the course start or end date. To 'star' a course, click the three dots by its name and then click Star this course.

Terms

We have added the ability to filter your courses by a custom course field called Term. These options will appear below the filter options by date and have only the options that are currently assigned to courses. At the moment, this feature is only available for '24 Winter and '24 Spring courses.

Hidden Courses

Hidden courses will not appear in any category except the Removed from View category, which is created right after a course is removed from view. To hide a course, click the three dots by its name and then click Remove from view.
